The Project to Enhance Education in Kawerau (PEEK) is an initiative developed between the Kawerau community and the Ministry of Education aimed at enhancing the education of students in the Kawerau District. PEEK was initially established in response to growing concerns regarding the number of students leaving Kawerau for their education.

The aim of this project is to build capacity within the local community to ensure a sustainable, collaborative and enthusiastic community approach to all levels of education in Kawerau. APR Consultants were initially employed on a short-term contract to develop the strategic plan. Following the plan's launch in 2002, APR Consultants were asked to stay on throughout the implementation phase as overall project coordinators. Due to the overwhelming success of the PEEK initiative, external involvement in the project is now in the process of winding down.
