In recent years APR have undertaken several significant health related projects. These include:-
New Emergency and Radiology Department, Ambulance Bay and Main Reception, Rotorua Hospital
This project involved the creation of a new emergency department on the ground floor of the existing main building. The new ED was designed to have efficient flows from both the new main reception, the ambulance bay and the new radiology department. The emergency department included triage, 3 resuscitation rooms, treatment rooms plus a central nurses station, and ancillary related facilities.
Work commenced with consultation with staff and management and the consequent development of a series of costed layouts and development alternatives until an alternative was accepted that met budget constraints. As part of the developed design process full scale mock ups were prepared of some areas to allow users to check the adequacy of the intended space provided. Construction was completed on time with some of the contingency sum unused.
Safe Care Unit Remodelling, Rotorua Hospital
We were tasked with not only upgrading and improving the quality of accommodation for staff and patients but with improving the functional layout and safety of the unit and improving non intrusive monitoring of patients whilst facilitating their access to social and communal areas.
Work included a 2 week period of cultural/procedural assimilation for the project architect prior to brief development, followed by design and consultation with staff, user groups and management and the consequent development of a series of costed layouts and development alternatives until an alternative was accepted that met all functional requirements and budget constraints. Followed by construction documentation, administration and close supervision. Construction was completed on time and budget.
Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit, Rotorua Hospital
APR were tasked with developing a range of concept plans and related costings for the proposed new elderly persons unit.
Remodelled Operating Theatres, Whakatane Hospital
APR architects and engineers worked closely with the Director of Surgical Services to remodel the operating theatre floor of Whakatane Hospital, this included not only the provision of new theatres but re-organising circulation so as to separate sterile, unsterile and visitor circulation, plus provide new autoclave room, staff toilets changing and other amenities. Up graded HVAC was provided throughout. Construction had to take place while the unit continued to operate and careful planning was required to avoid disruption and to maintain sterile conditions.
