In late 2000, APR Consultants was engaged by the Northland Sustainable Economic Development Strategy Steering Group to assist with the formulation of the Northland Sustainable Economic Development Strategy.

The project involved facilitating the participation of three district councils of the Northland Region, Northland Regional Council, Central Government agencies and Iwi/Maori representatives and included an extensive business and community survey programme, the construction of 16 industry sector "think tanks" and workshops with key stakeholders.

This project won the 2004 New Zealand Planning Institute Project Award.
